The 2023 MSI Katana B13 is available in two sizes, 15 inches, and 17 inches. However, there are no significant differences in terms of display specifications, as both versions offer an FHD IPS screen with a 144Hz frame rate.
The main difference is in terms of size and portability. The overall architecture of the laptop has not undergone any major changes, with the exception of a few added lines on the lid and an upgraded 4-zone gaming backlight for the keypad. Otherwise, the design remains largely the same.

Performance and Cooling Function
The series now comes equipped with a MUX Switch, allowing users to connect the NVIDIA GPU directly to the display and bypass the CPU’s integrated graphics. This feature enables users to switch between a hybrid mode for less demanding tasks and a discrete graphics mode for more demanding tasks, such as gaming. The MSI Center provides access to this function.
It is available with the latest RTX 4050, RTX 4060, and RTX 4070 graphics cards, all of which can operate at a maximum power of 105W using NVIDIA’s Dynamic Boost technology. Likewise, MSI plans to offer the 17-inch version of the Katana with older SKUs such as the RTX 3050 and RTX 2050.
Along with the new 10-core “Raptor Lake” Core i7-13620H processor with a maximum Turbo Boost frequency of 4.9 GHz. It also features MSI’s own Cooler Boost 5 technology, which uses a dual fan and six heat pipes to cool both the CPU and GPU.

It is embedded with a 3-cell 53.5 Whr Lii-Polymer battery, which is powered by a 200W adapter depending on the GPU configuration.
The laptop features a standard DC-in and combined audio jack, as well as four USB ports, an HDMI port, and Ethernet for connectivity. However, instead of a fingerprint reader, the MSI Katana B13 has a firmware-based Trusted Platform Module for enhanced security.
